Why screen colors and print colors don't match

AI only ever renders in RGB
Midjourney, DALL·E, and every other AI generator output RGB, the color model screens use to mix light. Printers build color with CMYK ink instead. Nothing converts between the two automatically.
RGB can show colors ink can't print
RGB has a wider range of colors than CMYK ink can physically reproduce, especially bright neons, deep blues, and vivid greens. Those colors don't disappear, they just shift to the closest color ink can actually make.
Printers auto-convert, inconsistently
If you don't convert the file yourself, your print vendor's software does it for you on the fly, using generic settings that vary by printer, paper stock, and shop. That's why the same file can come out differently at two different print shops.
